After showing off their school spirit last week, the infants and toddlers at the Dartmouth and New Bedford locations will continue with their exploration of spring and bugs this week. The children will be learning about birds and bees. Toddlers will enjoy reading books, singing songs and even learning a new poem; 5 Little Birds. At the end of the week they will take their new found bird knowledge to the playground to look and listen for their feathery friends. Infants will also enjoy books, songs and a nature buggy walk to look for birds themselves.

Obstacle courses, nature walks, parachute play, freeze dancing and Simon Says are all part of this week's physical development activities planned for the preschool groups in New Bedford & Dartmouth. The Mass. Frameworks Connections are PD2- build body awareness, strength & coordination through gross motor activities and PD5- use both sides of the body to build bilateral coordination.

Now that spring has truly sprung the infants and toddlers at our Dartmouth and New Bedford locations will enjoy exploring our monthly theme; spring, bugs and nature while enjoying the nature outdoors. The infants and toddlers alike will enjoy a variety of sensory experiences while learning about frogs this week. They will SEE pictures and HEAR the sounds frogs make. The toddlers will be encouraged to JUMP like frogs and act out the song Five Green and Speckled Frogs--an LPC favorite! These activities will encourage and support the children’s natural curiosity and exploration as well as support the Physical Health and Well Being Development Guidelines.

The number 3 will be the focus in our younger preschool classrooms in New Bedford & Dartmouth as they finger paint 3 ants on a hill, glue 3 buttons to the number 3, use 3 circles to create caterpillars and paint 3 spots on a ladybug. The Mass. Frameworks Connections are: N1- counting with one to one correspondence and N2- recognition of number symbols.

Tomorrow is "Family Literacy Night" at the 374 Rockdale Ave. location. Children have been very busy preparing for this night! There will be plenty of books for you to enjoy, as well as a hands-on project for the children to "make and take." There will also be plenty of "kid-created" refreshments! During the Week of Monday, April 13th - Friday, April 17th, we will be celebrating the Week of the Young Child. The Week of the Young Child is an annual celebration sponsored by the National Association for the Education of Young Children, NAEYC. It's purpose is to focus public attention on the needs of the children and their families and to recognize the early childhood programs and services that meet those needs. The children have worked very hard on making artwork that will be displayed at certain locations through Friday, April 24th. Below is a list of the sites where their artwork will be displayed.
